He Has Arrived!

12:45pm, September 4, 2010:

Ryan Bryce Clifton enters the world, 21 inches long and 8 lbs, 11 oz after a long 39 weeks of waiting.

Mom’s first words to the little guy?  “Holy cow! He’s huge!!”

Dad’s first words?  “That’s the biggest baby I’ve ever seen!”

Doctor’s first words? “Micah, if it’s not me, please be sure to let your future doctor know you should not carry past 39 weeks. You couldn’t deliver any bigger.”

So, the sweet guy made a big entrance during half time of the Mizzou football game. My room had a TV on the wall in front of my bed and wouldn’t ya know Andrew had the game on during the delivery. He actually had the nerve to verbalize his hope that the baby would be born before the start of the game. Of course, being the understanding wife that I am, I nodded to him with my beautifully made up face and freshly straightened hair and said, “Me too, Babe, for your sake”.

What? You don’t believe me?

Aye yi yi. Where was I…

Oh yes, my sweet boy. It looks like he’s crying in this picture, right?  Wrong. We never actually heard Ryan cry until a few days after we got home. Really! He would let out this tiny little cough (as captured in the image above) when he was upset and still, at 7 weeks old, he rarely cries. He lets us know when he’s hungry, but that’s about the only time he’s mildly upset.

Don’t hate me.

Livy is over-the-top excited about being a big sister. She was and is so proud of her little brother, talking about him to anyone who will listen.  She’s quite the little mama, talking sweetly to him when he’s in his bouncy or his swing, giving him hugs and kisses and trying to feed him.  er, what?  Oh yes, she tries to feed him:

Moving on.

Of course the fam came to the hospital to ooh and aah over the little guy.

I guess the uncles didn’t want their photos taken because I don’t have any pictures of Jeremy, Adam or Pat holding Ryan.

Welcome to our family, Ryan, we already love you more than you will ever know.
